Pre-Trip Cancellation Cover - FAQs

1. Eligibility

To be eligible for this cover, you must be 18 years or over when you apply and be the holder of a current PayPal account that is registered in Australia.
You must also be an Australian resident and either be an Australian citizen, or:
  • Be on a skilled working visa (e.g. a 457 visa), but not a working holiday visa
  • Have a partner/spouse visa which allows you to stay in Australia for at least 2 years
  • Have a New Zealand passport

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you must first activate your cover online. Once you have activated your cover, subsequent pre-paid trip expenses that are paid for using your PayPal account within your period of insurance will be covered. See ‘What is covered?’ for further details on what pre-paid cancellation expenses are covered.

You will automatically be emailed the Product Disclosure Statement containing the terms and conditions applicable to your policy once you have registered your details. If you have not received or have deleted the email, you can contact us.

Complimentary Pre-Trip Cancellation Cover

This policy is a Master Policy which PayPal has entered into with Chubb. Access to cover is provided to you if you meet the eligibility criteria specified. You have no right to vary or cancel the policy – only PayPal who has obtained this policy from Chubb, and Chubb can do this.

Termination or non-renewal of the Master Policy by PayPal or Chubb does not affect rights of covered persons with respect to any claim for loss that arose prior to such termination or non-renewal.

The Complimentary Pre-Trip Cancellation Cover only covers the PayPal account holder who has activated an individual policy.

Other travellers in your party who are holders of an Australian PayPal account can activate their own Complementary Pre-Trip Cancellation Cover so they will also have cover for their pre-paid cancellation expenses.

The Complimentary Pre-Trip Cancellation Cover provides cover for your pre-paid, non-refundable and unused portion of expenses when it is necessary for you to cancel your trip due to unforeseen circumstances. These expenses may include public transportation, accommodation, cruise activities and day excursions, entertainment tickets, training or conference costs but does not include a travel agent’s cancellation fee.

Not all circumstances are covered, for example, simply changing your mind about a trip is not covered. For more information please check the Product Disclosure Statement.

No, PayPal will not charge you for the Complimentary Pre-Trip Cancellation Cover.

2. Claims

Submitting a claim is simple. Please visit www.chubbclaims.com.au/tripprotection and follow the steps to complete the online form. Once you have submitted your claim, you will receive an acknowledgement email with the details of your claim submission.
Once all evidence to support your claim has been submitted, and if Chubb approve your claim, this will be confirmed to you within five business days. If there is an associated payment due to you, Chubb will issue the payment within five business days of claim approval.

The Complimentary Pre-Trip Cancellation Cover covers just one claim per year, up to the maximum sum of $500.
The Complimentary Pre-Trip Cancellation Cover does not have an excess applied in the event of a claim.
